Josh Berry and the No. 21 Motorcraft/Quick Lane team head to Martinsville Speedway, the Wood Brothers’ home track, carrying momentum from a strong second half of the NASCAR Cup Series season that has seen them record eight top-10 finishes since late July.
The team also enters the weekend with consecutive top-10 finishes in its last two starts at the paperclip-shaped half-mile oval, located just 30 miles from the Wood Brothers’ hometown of Stuart, Va.
However, as the Wood Brothers have learned through 130 previous starts at Martinsville, success rarely comes easy at the historic short track. The team has earned two victories, 28 top-five finishes and 47 top-10 finishes at the venue.
“Martinsville is one of those places where you really have to fight for everything you get,” said Berry, who has recorded two top-10 finishes and an average finish of 18.6 at the track. “It's a tough race, and you have to be aggressive, but you also have to be smart about how you manage your race.
“We've had some good results the second half of the season, but we want more, and hopefully we can go to Martinsville and put together another strong weekend.”
Practice for the Xfinity 500 is scheduled for Saturday at 1 p.m. Eastern Time, followed by qualifying at 2:05 p.m. Both sessions will be televised on truTV.
Sunday’s 500-lap, 250-mile race is scheduled to begin shortly after 2 p.m., with live coverage on NBC.
Stage breaks are scheduled for Laps 130 and 260.
