Josh Berry and the No. 21 Freightliner Mustang Dark Horse are set to start 35th in Sunday’s EchoPark Automotive Texas Grand Prix at Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas.
Berry took that spot with a lap around the 2.3-mile, 20-turn “short course” at 86.149 miles per hour Saturday afternoon.
In practice earlier on Saturday, he was 25th fastest with a best lap at 85.622 mph, which he turned on the sixth of the 10 laps he ran in the session. His average for the 10 green-flag laps was 84.993 mph, which was eighth best among drivers who ran 10 consecutive green-flag laps.
In the second session he was 29th on the speed chart with a best lap at 85.879 mph, which came on the third of the 10 laps he ran. He was 18th fastest among drivers who ran 10 straight laps, averaging 85.020 mph.
Sunday’s 95-lap, 219-mile race is scheduled to get the green flag just after 2:30 p.m. (3:30 p.m. Eastern) with TV coverage on FOX.
Stage breaks are planned for Laps 20 and 45.
