Harrison Burton and the No. 21 Motorcraft/Quick Lane Mustang Dark Horse are set to start 34th in Sunday’s Cook Out 400 at Martinsville Speedway.
Burton, who had the disadvantage of being the first driver to qualify, turned a lap at 94.139 miles per hour during the qualifying session Saturday afternoon.
He was much better relative to the rest of the field in the practice session held prior to qualifying.
He was 21st on the speed chart with a best lap at 93.530 mph, which he turned on the 22nd of the 50 laps he ran in practice. He was 22nd fastest among drivers who ran 10 consecutive green-flag laps. He averaged 92.952 mph on the third through the 12th lap he ran.
Sunday’s 400-lap race is scheduled to get the green flag just after 3 p.m. Eastern Time with Stage breaks at Laps 80 and 180.
